The Weekly Missive 11/24
I Will Tell You This: It's Black Friday and I'm sharing some fun things
Thank you for being here! If you’re returning, thanks for coming back. If you’re new, I hope you’ll return. And please do consider subscribing— I hope that this platform will allow me to create the community I once enjoyed through my blog, Cheaper By The Half Dozen. (Anyone remember that? Those were the days!)
If you like what you see, I’d love it if you’d share it with friends and family.
Though I am planning additional content, my goal is to post this basic format every Friday, free to all subscribers. I hope you have a great weekend and I’ll see you next Friday! Warmly, Marybeth
Quote of the week: “When a Southern woman says ‘Don’t ask me, I’m not in charge,’ she means, ‘They’re doing it wrong.” (Seen on instagram)
Post of the week: (Choose your favorite Black Friday sale post.) I haven’t bought much yet, but I did indulge in some Leanne Morgan merch after watching her share it on instagram.
What I’m reading: I just finished Emergency Contact. I read it super quick! It was a different take on a Christmas novel— part enemies to lovers trope, part Planes, Trains and Automobiles. (Bonus: it was only $5.99 on Kindle)
What I’m listening to: Sunglasses Kid music (I follow him on instagram but he also has music available on iTunes)
What I’m watching: We are in the perilous state of choosing what Christmas movies to watch for the next month, and in what order to watch them. This is serious business. I want to lead off with Die Hard, but Curt thinks that’s possibly setting the wrong tone for the season. I’ll keep you updated.
What I’m googling: All the Thanksgiving recipes. We had regular Thanksgiving with most of our family on Thursday, but one of our kids got sick and had to miss. So we are having a do-over this weekend for him. Which means more cooking for me— but I’m happy to do it!
What I’m cooking: (See above)
What I’m following (True Crime): this week has seemed like a busy one true crime wise— I was able to listen to several updates while doing my Thanksgiving cooking. I’ve listened to updates on the Idaho murders (the one year anniversary was recently), the continuing saga of the Adelson family, and the Watts case.
What I’m learning: the meaning of the word TERMAGANT- a harsh-tempered or overbearing woman (This word was used a few times in Emergency Contact and I had never heard it before.)
What I’m writing: still working on edits for my latest novel. I hope someday to have news to share here!
Gratitude: friends, family, feasting, safe travels, cozy nights, God’s gentleness, and wine

(Though I’ve adapted it, this format was originally inspired by author Kim Hooper’s blog. I loved her novel No Hiding in Boise. You should check it out.)
Happy Thanksgiving!
